The United States Department of the Interior manages Federally owned land in the U.S. and is also responsible for protecting certain indigenous people as well as natural habitat and wildlife. The DOI manages over 500 million acres including 410 National Parks and 544 National Wildlife Refuges. Both the National Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service are under the Interior Department’s control.
